Hi, we're VALDA a group of eight acapella singers based in Wexford town, in the Sunny Southeast of Ireland. We're currently preparing for a Summer Concert in late August (details later!) and are busy compiling new repertoire for our annual lunchtime concert during Wexford Opera Festival on Saturday October 16th in the Friary Church, Wexford Town. Tickets for this event will go on sale in Whites for Music, Wexford Town (ph 053 91 22067) in September.
Last December we released our Christmas CD, "Sweet Singing in the Choir" and Meals on Wheels received a donation for each CD sold. You can support our effort by clicking on the 'buy Christmas CD' tab on the left (we'll send it to you in a jiffy) and it's also available from Whites for Music, Wexford Town and Enniscorthy. The CD was a new departure for us, as we are accompanied by a string quartet and the CD features lots of Christmas classics which we know you'll enjoy.
Our extensive repertoire spans the genres, from Madrigals to Jazz and Sacred to Salsa. It includes contemporary pieces and 500 year old compositions! We are under the musical directorship of Louise Malone, an accomplished teacher and musician. In 2005 we recorded our first CD which includes much of the light side of our repertoire from Anders Edenroths "Chilli con Carne" and "Acapella in Acapulco" to Jerome Kerns "The Way you Look Tonight". You can check us out on Utube performing in the beautiful village of Ager in Catalunya, singing "Requiescat" - the Oscar Wilde lyrics of this beautiful piece were inspired by the death of his beloved sister.
